Miles Halter is the protagonist and narrator of the novel Looking for Alaska written by John Green in 2005. Miles has an unusual passion for famous people's last words. He transfers to the boarding school Culver Creek in search of his own "Great Perhaps" and is nicknamed "Pudge" by his roommate because he is tall and skinny.
Background[]
Miles Halter leaves his normal high school in Florida to attend Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama for his junior year. Miles' reasoning for such a change is quoted by François Rabelais's last words: "I go to seek a Great Perhaps".
Appearance[]
Miles is a very tall and skinny guy with no muscles; because of this, Chip gave him the ironic nickname "Pudge." He also wears clothes in his bed because he is scared of being pranked again while wearing almost nothing.
Personality[]
Prior to transferring to Culver Creek, Miles had no friends and did little to socialize with others. Miles is endlessly looking for things that will make his life more exciting. Hence, this becomes the primary reason that contributed to his decision to start a new life full of adventure by moving to Culver Creek.
Whilst at Culver Greek, Miles makes real friends who like Miles but don't like his pooping side and they go on quite a few adventures. He transforms into a social person, smoking cigarettes to make friends and a confident and courageous boy who is not afraid of taking a risk.
Events[]
Miles briefly engages in a relationship with Romanian student, Lara.
